Applications

Where nanodiamond chrome earns its keep

The coating is used where tooling and part wear directly limits output: stamping, glass molding, engines, railways.

01

Stamping and press tooling

Dies, molds, punches wear through a dozen mechanisms at once: abrasion, adhesive wear, thermal fatigue, corrosion. Nanodiamond chrome addresses them with a single coating: hardness up to 1400 kg/mm², low friction, no cracking.

Application results (group data): piercing punch life up 40–100% at TMK and Rostec enterprises; railway wheel die life up 30% in hot forging at VMZ.

Glass industry

Mold sets

Press molds for pressure glass forming, blank and finish molds for glass containers.

Line tooling

Pattern dies, complex-geometry molds, casting machine and drawing machine tooling.

Rollers and guides

Press rollers, vacuum mold tooling — units in constant contact with hot glass.

The coating reduces glass sticking and wear of mold working surfaces. A trial program on the customer's tooling is the standard first step.

03

Engines and unmanned systems

Engine cylinder-piston group

Coating of cylinders, pistons and piston rings against radial and axial wear, scuffing and cavitation. Verified track record: hard chrome plating of K350 cylinders (quality certificate No. 1/24 of 17.10.2024).

UAS engines

A program to extend the cylinder-piston group life of unmanned aircraft engines using metal-diamond coating — in line with Russia's Unmanned Aviation Development Strategy to 2030.

Railways

Wheelsets

VNIIZhT testing (2022) on wheel rim specimens per GOST 10791-2011: wear resistance +18%, total friction pair wear −11%, rolling contact fatigue resistance +5%, with no increase in rail specimen wear.

Wheel forging dies

A patent application has been filed for applying chrome-nanodiamond coating to railway wheel forging dies — on standard plating lines without upgrades.
